We pedal along the “urban wetland” of Vallenar – a place of recreation and relaxation for the city's inhabitants, but also habitat for a great diversity of flora and fauna – especially for birds.

Once we leave the urban area behind, we take a route into the valley which used to be a railway in former times for trains to transport minerals from the small mines of the area. From a viewpoint in this sector called “El Jílguero”, we have beautiful views of the Huasco River flowing through the desert hills.

We visit a place whose existence is truly surprising considering its desert surroundings. We walk through abundant vegetation of ferns, mosses, and pampas grass that surrounds an old stone bridge built among the rocks. Here, we enjoy the silence that allows us to listen only to the the gentle flow of water and the birds.

Before returning to Vallenar, we take a trip through El Imperial – a rural area on the outskirts of the city where we cycle among vineyards and vegetable cultivations.
