We cycle along the “Humedal Urbano” (urban wetland) of Vallenar – a place of entertainment and relaxation for the city dwellers, but also hábitat of a wide variety of flora and fauna – especially birds. In this section we also find some ancient vestiges of the past mining activity in the area. Once we left behind the urban zone, we take a route into the valley on which used to be in former times the railway for the train that also transported mineral. In this sector called “El Jilguero” we have precios views over the Huasco River that flows its way down inbetween the desert mountains.

We visit a place whose existence is quite surprising in the environment where it is located. Let yourself be enchanted by an abundant vegetation of ferns, mosses and rivergrass that surrounds an old stone bridge built between the rocks. Here we enjoy the silence, that permits listening only to the water and the birds. Before returning to Vallenar, we cycle around the rural area of El Imerial in the outskirts of the city, where inbetween grapes cultivations there are also grown various vegetables.
