Bicycle Tour Farms around Vallenar
We set off cycling from the provincial capital Vallenar. Outside the city center, we pass the old bridge which was part of the Panamericana North, from where we have a panoramic view of the valley and the city. Leaving the urban area behind, we enter the desert surroundings of the city, and despite of the aridity, we encounter fields traditionally used for agriculture thanks to the irrigation canal systems and water storage ponds devised by the old landowners.

We cycle through the areas of the former Haciendas “Compañía” and “Buena Esperanza” and their current fruit and vegetable crops, as well as their rural villages. Probably we encounter some goats or cows along the way. To return to the city, we have to cycle a stretch along the main road that connects Vallenar with Huasco before turning towards the small village “Perales Viejos”, where we cross the Huasco River and take a rural way alongside the river. In this strech we can find native vegetation, and with a bit of luck, we might observe different species of birds.

You should bring:
  • Comfortable and suitable clothing and shoes for cycling
  • Small backpack
  • Sun protection such as hat, sunglasses, sunblocker
Notes:
  • Permited age range: 12 - 70 years
  • Activity not suitable for pregnant women, people with limited mobility, people with respiratory or heart problems, people with knee problems.
  • Any health restricction should be informed in advance
  • Participants must know how to ride a bicycle and be able to follow the guide's instructions.
  • Each participant must fill out a registration and risk acceptance form before the start of the activity
