The coastal sector of the Huasco Province in the South of the Atacama Region stands out for its eternal beaches, its scenic beauties, its olive growing and its delicious products derived from olives. The already famous olive oil from the Huasco Valley even obtained the recognition of Denomination of Origin in 2018 and since then it has had its own respective seal.

We know the small town of Freirina - a place full of history, which awaits us with its beautiful square and its national monuments. The Llanos de Challe National Park offers us a sample of the ecosystem of this area. During a 2 km walk we can be amazed by the impressive views, the desert flora and strange geological formations. With some luck we can also observe some wild animals such as guanacos, foxes, lizards etc. In Los Olivos Centenarios we walk under the oldest olive trees in the Huasco Valley that reach almost 500 years old and we learn about olive growing and the family history of the owners of this place - of course you can also taste it. During the tour we have the option of short stops to visit the sales rooms of local producers of typical products.

Itinerary

Vallenar departure: 08.30 hrs. - Freirina (square with national monuments) - Llanos de Challe National Park (2 km walk - medium difficulty) - Huasco port (fishermen's wharf and lunch) - Olivos Centenarios Huasco Bajo (guided tour through aged olive trees and olive and oil tasting ) - Arrival Vallenar: 18.00 hrs. approx.
