During this program you move through the sunny Andean foothills of the Huasco Province and get to know this purely rural area and the secrets it keeps, in a direct and connecting manner.
Nuestro camino nos lleva por el Valle del Tránsito que se conoce también como “Valle del los Naturales” por haber sido lugar de refugio de los habitantes originarios diaguitas desde la colonización española del sector. Durante el trayecto conoces algunos personajes y aprendes sobre la vida pasada y actual de este pueblo indígena que está en un proceso de redescubrir sus raíces y revivir su cultura.
In the tiny little village of Pinte which is inserted in middle of multicoloured mountains and strange geological formations, you can let yourself be enveloped by the magical mood that characterizes this place and further discover its fossil treassures that evidence lifeforms of many millions of years ago.
We share a delicious barbeque before spending the night camping below the clear starry sky of this place which is further the starting point of the demanding 2 day trekk that we start at dawn of the next day.
Siguiendo la huella tropera que antiguamente fue usada por las distintas culturas indígenas que habitaban el sector así como por los Incas que habían llegado desde el norte, cruzamos la Sierra del Tatúl con destino “Valle de los Españoles” que debe su apodo al hecho que era el principal lugar de asentamiento de los colonos españoles que llegaron en el siglo 17. Caminamos por solitarios parajes montañosos donde sólo escuchamos el viento y el sonido de las aves y los únicos seres humanos que pueden cruzar nuestro camino son los pastores caprinos trashumantes quienes mantienen vivo su oficio hasta la actualidad. A aproximadamente la mitad del trayecto y una altura de 2800 msnm armamos campamento y compartimos historias del campo a orilla de una fogata. En la tarde del segundo día de nuestra travesía se nos presentan desde la altura unas impresionantes vistas sobre el Valle del Carmen. Llegamos bien agotados , pero satisfechos a San Félix, el principal pueblo de este valle donde nos esperan con unos muy merecidos refrescos y cositas para picar. De ahí seguimos el camino valle abajo para terminar nuestro programa en Vallenar.
Itinerary
1st day: Vallenar (start: 03.00 pm) – Santa Juana reservoir – El Tránsito - Pinte, Tránsito Valley
2nd day: Pinte (start: 07.00 am) – Sendero de Chile
3rd day: Sendero de Chile - San Félix, Carmen Valley - Vallenar (arrival: 07.15 pm approx.)
(Total travel in vehicle: 158 km approx. / total trekking: 35 km approx.)
You must know
Includes: Private transport Vallenar – Pinte (1st day) and San Félix – Vallenar (3rd day) with Spanish speaking driverguide, visit museum Pinte, 1 night camping in Pinte, shared barbeque (vegetarian option) and breakfast in Pinte, filtered drinking water (1st day), refreshing drinks and snacks (3rd day)
During the trekking (2nd and 3rd day): Spanish speaking guide, introduction speech, complete outdoor alimentation, trekking sticks, first aid kit, wireless set, GPS, tent for those who require
Optional (additional cost): English or German speaking guide, pack animal for the trekking
Does not include insurance, other food than mentioned, sleeping bag, sun protection, rescue costs
You should bring:
-comfortable and adequate clothes and shoes for trekking
-light tent and sleeping bag suitable for middle high mountains (it’s possible to borrow a tent)
-warm clothes for the night
-comfortable backpack adequate for trekking
-sun protection as sunhat, sunglasses and sunblocker
Notes:
-Permited age range: 12 – 60 years
-Activity is not suitable for pregnant women, persons with limitations in their mobility, persons with fear of height, persons with cardiac and respiratory problems, persons who don’t tolerate the height of 3000 m.a.s.l.
-Any restriction in health of a participant has to be informed with anticipation
-Participants should have some experience in long lasting walks and be able to follow the instructions of the guide
-Every participant should fill out an inscription and acceptance of risk – form before initiating the activity
