Huasco Valley
Huasco Valley
The Huasco Valley also known as "The Garden of Atacama" is a fertile desert valley, located in southern Atacama Region.
It has a privileged climate that allows tourist activity throughout the year.
It’s a charming destination for nature- and rural tourism that, between the Andes mountains and the Pacific ocean, offers experiences for all our senses and further a lot of human warmth.
Thanks to the Huasco River and its tributaries, there’s a long agricultural tradition.
Within the arid desert environment an impressive variety of delicious fruits are grown and recognized local products are produced – three of them with designation of origen as the pisco, the “pajarete” (sweet desert wine) and the famous olive oil of Huasco Valley.
The surprising diversity of desert flora and fauna stands out for its high degree of endemism, that can be observed e.g. in the Llanos de Challe National Park.
On the other hand the “Pingüino de Humboldt” National Reserve harbors an exeptional marine biodiversity. Especially during summer season various cetaceans show up including the planet’s biggest animal: the blue whale.
The landscape provides astonishing and varied scenic beauties and from time to time, when a series of factors precisely combine, the desert blooms and converts itself in a sea of colours, shapes and fragrances where life appears everywhere and in all its facets.
And let's not forget the spectacular Atacama night sky which is famous for its favorable atmospheric conditions for astronomical observation.
